The store at the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu, the world’s biggest open-air shopping center, has been completely reimagined. Incorporating eateries has created a fusion of supermarket and foodhall. A shaved ice bar and open-kitchen food stations offering steak, sushi, poke (a Hawaiian fish dish) and

pizza attract both Hawaiian customers and tourists. To-go products and gastronomy now take up a third of the 2,750 m² sales area. The result is a supermarket in a class of its own in Hawaii. The concept puts the emphasis on regional products and the goods themselves.
